Edgewater Maximalist Bedroom, Reimagined

Our clients came to us with one request: a purple bedroom. After years of being told their taste was “too bold,” they were ready for a room that finally looked like them. It’s moody, layered, and unapologetically colorful, and it honors their historic landmarked home while making room for the art and objects they love.

Mood board The starting palette is plum, moss, and lavender layered with florals, plaids, and plenty of pattern.

The Brief

A previous designer had steered this couple toward safe, quiet choices. The result was a bedroom that never reflected their love of bold color, pattern, and art. When they came to us, the starting point was simple and exciting: make it purple.

From there, we set out to make the room feel moody and a little traditional, with architectural detail and depth that respect the character of their landmarked Edgewater home. We balanced that with the clean lines of their contemporary furniture, so the space feels collected and personal rather than like a period piece.

Inspiration A reference we shared early on for the vanity wall. Its layered frames on picture rails and moody plum tones helped shape our direction. Image for inspiration only; not a Bloom & Co. design.

A Wall of Built-Ins

The heart of the room is a full wall of rich plum cabinetry with a built-in vanity at its center. Fabric-lined door panels coordinate with the drapery. They add texture and detail at eye level and hide generous storage behind them. Above, Mind the Gap’s Dragon Flower wallpaper brings a sweeping, painterly pattern that makes the whole room feel enveloping.

Space to Show It Off

Our clients wanted their art, ceramics, and memorabilia on proper display. We landed on open shelving throughout the built-ins and added picture rails above the vanity, so they can layer frames and photos to the max and rearrange them whenever they like. The room is built to keep evolving with them.

An evolving design concept, not a completed project.
